Some interesting detective work by a user on X (formerly known as Twitter), noted just how unlucky teams have been with current Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chase Claypool on their roster.
11 months after the Pittsburgh Steelers sent Claypool to the Chicago Bears for a 2023 second-round pick which turned into standout corner Joey Porter Jr., the fourth-year wideout was sent to the Dolphins. Miami also received a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Bears, who got a 2025 sixth-round draft choice in return.
X user @Ishlytics noted that teams have been badly jinxed with Claypool on their roster. In the case of the Bears, they were 0-13 with Claypool on their roster but have gone 2-1 since trading him to Miami.
The Dolphins were 5-1 before activating Claypool. They are now 0-1 since activating the Canadian kid, having lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. On top of that, the Steelers were 2-6 last year before sending Claypool to the Bears. Mike Tomlin’s team has gone 11-4 ever since.
Now, Claypool can’t be blamed for these stunning numbers. The Bears were football’s worst team a year ago, and they didn’t have star wideout D.J. Moore on their roster at the time.
The Dolphins just lost to arguably football’s best team and are still a force in the AFC. The rapidly improved play of George Pickens has also been key in Pittsburgh’s offense turnaround over the past year.

Don’t forget that Claypool exceeded 800 receiving yards in his rookie and sophomore seasons in 2020 and 2021. If he can stay healthy and develop good chemistry with Tua Tagovailoa, the old version of Claypool just might resurface.
