Chase Claypool put up donuts (zero catches, zero receptions and zero touchdowns) for the Chicago Bears in their season opener against the Green bay Packers, but he was at least notable on television — albeit for all the wrong reasons.
After a Bears’ rushing play, Claypool shoved Packers’ linebacker Kingsley Enagbare. The latter responded with a small shove of his own on Claypool, who then attempted a not-so-Oscar-worthy flop with the hope of drawing a penalty:
Nice try, Mr. Claypool. But you’re gonna have to do a lot better than that if you ever want a referee to fall for it.
Claypool had a frustrating start to the 2022 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, which prompted them to deal him to the Bears ahead of the deadline. The change of scenery didn’t help Claypool, who had just 14 receptions for 140 yards and zero touchdowns in seven games with his new team.
The 25-year-old showed signs of future stardom in 2020 and 2021 when he exceeded the 50-catch and 800-yard receiving marks. As a rookie, Claypool tallied nine receiving touchdowns which helped the Steelers to a surprise AFC North division crown.
Claypool’s inability to get open and find separation since joining Chicago has been well-documented. At this rate, it might not be long until he finds himself on his third team in just two seasons…
