It’s certainly starting to look as though wide receiver Chase Claypool has played his final game for the Chicago Bears.
Claypool was inactive for the Bears’ Week 4 home game against the Denver Broncos. After the game, head coach Matt Eberflus stated that Claypool chose to stay home. Soon after, however, a team spokesperson later clarified that the Bears told the fourth-year wideout to stay home.
Matt Lombardo of FanBuzz spoke to an NFC East team scout who suggested that three Super Bowl contenders could have interest in landing the struggling wide receiver.
“No one is going to pay a high price for Chase Claypool.I don’t know which teams would even really need him. But, if you look at teams like Philadelphia or Kansas City, maybe even Detroit…Teams making championship runs could view him as a quality backup or depth piece.”
The 25-year-old Claypool showed promise in his first two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, surpassing the 50-catch and 800-yard marks in both 2020 and 2021. Claypool racked up nine touchdowns in the 2020 season, displaying signs of future stardom.

But Claypool simply hasn’t been able to put it together on a struggling Bears team. Since arriving in the Windy City via trade last year, Claypool has just 18 receptions for 191 yards and a touchdown in 10 games.
It’s quite evident that Claypool could use a fresh start. Working in a prolific offense and a productive quarterback like Jared Goff in Detroit, Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City or Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia would certainly help Claypool regain the star-like form we saw in Steel City.
Claypool has 13 touchdowns and 2,235 receiving yards on 171 career receptions.
