Having just endured the most painful loss of his NFL career, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward was in no mood for trash talking from New York Jets All-Pro corner Sauce Gardner after the game.
On X/Twitter, Gardner tweeted that Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs “always find a way” with a laughing and “100” emoji:
In a tweet that has since been deleted, Ward came back at Gardner and poked fun at the second-year corner over the fact that he hasn’t yet appeared in a postseason game. Ward then told him to “worry bout the sorry a** JETS.”
Ward was one of the 49ers’ key contributors on defense this season, recording a career-high five interceptions and a league-leading 23 pass defenses. But in a script similar to Super Bowl 54 four years ago, the 49ers’ defense just couldn’t contain Mahomes and the KC offense in the second half.
The Chiefs won in overtime on a game-winning touchdown pass from Mahomes to Mecole Hardman, after Jake Moody kicked a field goal on the 49ers’ opening possession. With the victory, the Chiefs secured the first Super Bowl repeat since the 2004 New England Patriots.

It’s also worth noting that the Jets will visit the 49ers at some point next season, so Ward and Gardner will have the chance to add additional heat to their new rivalry.
