Earlier on Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward asked his social media followers for prayers. He posted to his Instagram that his daughter is set to have open-heart surgery.
“Pray for my lil one!! Open heart surgery today,” Ward wrote via social media.
Ward’s daughter was born back in November, which came at a time when the 49ers were getting ready to head to Mexico City for their game against the Arizona Cardinals. Amani Joi was born five weeks ahead of schedule, and Ward stated that he was only able to hold Amani Joi for a few minutes before she required to oxygen to assist her breathing.
Ward posted a positive update on his Instagram story Tuesday night to update everybody on the surgery.
“Thanks everybody for the prayers & support,” Ward wrote. “Amani is out of surgery and on the road to recovery. Thanks for the love.”
Ward, like any other first-time parent, told The Athletic’s Matt Barrows the birth of his child would lead to a change in how he acts.

“I feel like already my baby has given me more heart — more love in my heart, more love in my body,” Ward told Barrows. “Not only for her but for other people as well.”
The anxiety for Ward was definitely sky high, but now he and his love ones can just focus on his daughter’s continued recovery.
