It’s no secret that less traveling is a big advantage for any NFL team. Any player in the league will tell you that they would rather not have to fly thousands of miles every week, or play an opponent in a different time zone.
That’s why the schedule every year is so important. Not just because of who each team plays, but because of where they play. And now that the 2022 NFL schedule has been released, we can tell you exactly how much every team will be traveling next season.
Adam Schefter released a chart with the numbers (via @billsperos), indicating exactly how many miles and time zones each team will travel in 2022. The Seahawks are at the biggest disadvantage, traveling over 2,000 miles more than the second-most traveled team, the Denver Broncos.
However, it’s the other end of the chart that has most people in shock, as the Pittsburgh Steelers will have the luxury of never having to leave the Eastern time zone next year.
While the Seahawks will be accumulating 29,446 miles worth of frequent flier points in 2022, the Steelers will only account for 6,442 total miles. And Pittsburgh’s zero time zones traveled is even more insane when you consider the fact that 14 teams will be passing through at least 20 time zones throughout the year.
How did the Steelers end up with such a favorable schedule, you ask? Pittsburgh will face off against the NFC South and the AFC East, both of which are comprised of teams strictly within the Eastern time zone. The only team they play outside their time zone is the Las Vegas Raiders. However, that game will be taking place at Heinz Field, saving the Steelers a trip out west.

Not surprisingly, Pittsburgh’s AFC North foes won’t be doing much traveling either, as the Ravens and Browns will only have to travel two time zones, while the Bengals will only travel four.
