The Kansas City Chiefs will begin the upcoming 2023 season without one of their defensive ends as he has been handed a six-game suspension by the NFL.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that Charles Omenihu has been banned from playing the first six games of next term as a result of a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy, though the ban won’t leave him unable to practice.
He will also be eligible to suit up for KC’s preseason games.
The suspension is believed to have stemmed from the DE’s arrest for misdemeanor domestic violence in January, something NFL rules state is punishable via a six-game suspension.
The Chiefs only acquired the player in March, signing him to a two-year deal following a spell with the San Francisco 49ers.
A fifth-round pick by the Houston Texans in the 2019 NFL Draft, Omenihu played in 35 games for Houston before he moved to the Niners as part of a trade in 2021.
