Charles Barkley recently claimed he was offered Monday Night Football, but he turned down the job.
The comments were made during an appearance on the first episode of The Jim Brockmire Podcast. The 58-year-old turned it down because even he knew he wasn’t right for the job.
“I only comment on basketball. Like they offered me Monday Night Football,” Barkley said during an appearance on the Jim Brockmire Podcast.
“I says, ‘I like football, but I ain’t going to be one of these jackasses to get on TV and act like he know about football.’”
Back in August 2020, Steve Levy and analysts Louis Riddick and Brian Griese were chosen to take over the booth for Monday Night Football this season.
The new crew will debut Sept. 14 with the Tennessee Titans at the Denver Broncos, the second game of ESPN’s doubleheader that night.
