You would think every quarterback would love the chance to play for a possible Super Bowl contender in the New York Jets after they lost Aaron Rodgers for the year. That wasn’t true for one veteran.
Former NFL quarterback Chad Henne said he turned down an opportunity to join the Jets following Aaron Rodgers going down in the season opener with a torn Achilles tendon.
The 38-year-old said he was excited to receive a contract offer, but decided to pass on the deal.
“I hung them up for the right reasons,” Henne said, (first transcribed by Sports Illustrated). “I didn’t want to go back and put my body into it.”
The 38-year-old retired following the Chiefs’ 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII back in February.
The former second-round pick, who spends his days as a volunteer assistant coach at Wilson High School in Reading, Pa., spent 15 seasons in the league, and started in 54 total games going 18-36. He played for the Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Chiefs. He won two Super Bowls as a member of the Chiefs.

Henne could’ve been the perfect veteran presence for the young Zach Wilson in the Jets quarterback room.
Wilson has completed 54.2% of his passes for 310 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions in two games played this season. He will get another chance to try and impress his team when the rival New England Patriots come to town this weekend.
