It was Tom Brady’s night on Wednesday, but Dave Portnoy unintentionally ended up making things about him.
The New England Patriots longtime quarterback was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame during a ceremony inside Gillette Stadium.
Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy made sure he was in the house for this event, but he did not stay to watch the entire thing.
The Patriots threw the event at Gillette Stadium to honor Brady’s time in New England and enshrine his career in their history books. It also came on the same day as the Boston Celtics were set to take on the Dallas Mavericks in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
Sporting a Celtics cap at the event, Dave Portnoy detailed that he had to leave the event to catch the end of Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks.
Even Julian Edelman had to call him out for leaving, saying, “Would’ve been nice to have you here @stoolpresidente,” Edelman posted to X.
Portnoy didn’t regret leaving the stadium as he stated he felt the Celtics “needed” him in their latest matchup with the Mavericks.

Unfortunately for Dave Portnoy, he left before hearing Tom Brady give him and his crew a major shoutout during his speech.
“Not mad at all that I snuck out to watch the NBA Finals and missed this moment. Celts needed me. #banner18. *but doesn’t mean I’m not sad about it,” Portnoy tweeted on Wednesday night.
The Celtics almost lost a 20-point lead but came out victorious in a game that gave them a commanding 3-0 series lead in the NBA Finals, and Portnoy didn’t have any more regrets on this night.
Dave Portnoy Addresses Leaving Tom Brady’s Hall of Fame Ceremony Amid Shoutout From Tom Brady
Dave Portnoy received a major shoutout from Tom Brady at his Hall of Fame ceremony, and he wasn’t even there to hear it because he decided to leave early.
Portnoy addressed his decision on Thursday with an “Emergency Press Conference.”
“I was like, ‘I need to watch this [expletive] game.’ This is banner 18. Like, yeah, Tom Brady, I love you, but what’s Tom Brady always say? What’s his favorite banner? His favorite banner is the next one. And that’s how I am,” Dave Portnoy explained. “I move forward. I don’t move backwards. This is the NBA [expletive] Finals.”
