David Njoku has opened up on the incident that nearly cost him his eyesight.
The Browns star’s face was burnt pretty badly in a fire pit incident and, the way he tells it, things could have been a lot worse as his eyes were open at the time and he could have been blinded.
“I give all the glory to God. When it happened my eyes were open, so I saw everything and I really should’ve been blinded,” Njoku told reporters in a locker room interview “Luckily I’m not, so I give all glory to God.”
Njoku could have easily gotten time off after the terrifying incident but was on the field for Cleveland against the Ravens just a few days later and managed to wear a helmet over the burnt area. He insisted offseason training was tougher than the current ordeal.
“All the pain and suffering from training in the offseason is far worse than any of this,” he said.

While the Browns were soundly beaten in the Week 4 matchup, the tight end had a decent game, making six catches for 46 yards in spite of his injuries.
Fans and media personnel were none the wiser following the incident as Njoku was masked up when he arrived for the game and kept his face covered after.
He has since shared photos to social media showing how his face looked after he got burnt and how it looked after the healing process started.
“Never felt better,” he responded after being asked how he was feeling at the time of the interview.
