In March 2018, the Denver Broncos signed Case Keenum to a 2-year deal after he threw for 3,547 yards, 22 touchdowns, and only 7 interceptions for the Minnesota Vikings in 2017.
As the full-time starter for the Broncos, he threw for 3,890 yards, 18 touchdowns, and a whopping 15 interceptions for a team that finished 6-10 in 2018.
Broncos made a move when they traded for Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco and it shocked everybody, including Keenum.
The 31-year-old says he felt let-down when John Elway called and told him about the reported move.
“I was definitely shocked, it was a surprise for us and I think probably for the first day or so that’s kind of what it was,” Keenum said alongside his wife, Kimberly, on the “Sports Spectrum Podcast” on Thursday. “But for us, we’re definitely disappointed, it’s not something we wanted to happen. I know that everybody’s doing their job and John feels like that was a chance for him to help the Broncos out.”
If the Broncos decided to move on from Keenum, cutting him would cost $10 million in dead money, but trading him would cost only $3 million in dead cap space.
“You know, really, it’s really open-ended right now,” Keenum said. “We don’t know what’s going to happen, there’s still a lot up in the air; this is really fresh. So a lot of these emotions that we’re talking about are still kind of going on, still happening. So who knows what’s going to be in store? I don’t for sure, God does. But we’ll be ready for whatever God has in store for us next.”
