When Philadelphia used a second-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft on former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts, the team got heavily scrutinized as they had just given five-year starter Carson Wentz a four-year, $128 million contract extension.
Eleven months later, Wentz has since been traded to the Indianapolis Colts and Hurts is the presumptive starter for Philadelphia in 2021.
During his introductory press conference in Indianapolis, Wentz talked about being benched in favor of Jalen Hurts during a Week 14 game against the Green Bay Packers.
“I’m not gonna sugar coat it,” said Wentz. “It’s not fun. … A lot of things, I don’t know why they happened or why they went the way that they did. But you have to look at yourself in the mirror as a man.”
Despite how things ended in Philadelphia, Wentz wishes nothing but the best for Hurts.
“I wish the kid nothing but the best,” Wentz said of Hurts, via Bleacher Report. “I got a lot of respect for him.”

When Philadelphia benched Wentz, he had thrown more interceptions, lost more turnovers and been sacked more times than any other quarterback in the NFL in 2020.
Philadelphia acquired a 2021 third-round draft pick and a 2022 conditional second-round draft pick from Indianapolis for Wentz.
