Carson Wentz’s camp reportedly reached out to an AFC team to see if they’d have interest in signing the 30-year-old before he joined the Los Angeles Rams.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Wentz’s camp spoke with the Jets following the team’s Week 9 Monday night loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. But according to Rapoport, New York never wound up making an offer to the Super Bowl 52 champion.
With Matthew Stafford battling a thumb injury, the Rams (on their bye this week), decided to add the No. 2 pick of 2016 for insurance. Brett Rypien, who started last week’s game against the Green Bay Packers, was released.
The Jets are curiously sticking with backup Zach Wilson, who has struggled all season long in place of Aaron Rodgers. The 24-year-old has completed just 59.9 percent of his pass attempts for 1,600 yards and five touchdowns against as many interceptions.
