Mike Tomlin may be on his way to a head coaching job in college?? The Pittsburgh Steelers head coach is being rumored to be headed to Southern California according to a former AFC North quarterback.
Palmer, the former USC quarterback, said Tomlin is among the “front-runners” to replace Clay Helton as the head coach of the Trojans. Helted was fired from the program last month.
“I’ve been talking to a bunch of folks and been giving input here and there,” Palmer said. “I’ve been as involved as they’ll let me be.”
Dan Patrick asked Palmer if James Franklin of Penn State is the “frontrunner.” Palmer said that “there are a lot of frontrunners.” Dan then pointed out that there can’t be a lot of frontrunners. Then he threw out this: “You’ve got a wild card like Mike Tomlin. If Mike Tomlin wants out.”
So has Tomlin been discussed there for the position?
“I’m sure he has,” Palmer said. “I think anybody is a potential candidate right now. And that’s what’s so great about the job. Is it can lure an NFL guy that’s tired of their current situation and worried about is Ben Roethlisberger gone? Is he done? Who are we gonna draft? Is Mike Tomlin gonna have to start over with a young rookie quarterback?”

“Is that the first you’ve heard of that?” Palmer said.
Dan said yes. Palmer said, “Uh-oh. . . . Oops.”
Tomlin signed a three-year extension with the Steelers in April that will commit him to the team through the 2024 season. He has been the head coach with Pittsburgh since 2007.
