Death, taxes and Bryce Young’s size once again being brought up as we await his highly-anticipated NFL debut.
The Carolina Panthers selected the Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback first overall in last month’s NFL Draft. Though Young’s all-world skill set certainly can’t be denied, many scouts and pundits are worried if his height (5-foot-10, 1/8 inches) will prevent him from reaching his potential at the NFL level.
Since Young was drafted, many folks have noticed the major size difference between the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner and his teammates.
A recent photo of Young and 2023 NFL draftees at the NFL Rookie Premiere has been going viral. As you can see, the new Carolina starting quarterback is considerably smaller than his fellow rookies:
While most of today’s NFL quarterbacks are 6-foot-2 or taller, size certainly isn’t everything at the NFL level. Ex-New Orleans Saints superstar quarterback Drew Brees, listed at barely six feet in height, endured a Hall of Fame-like career that spanned two decades.
Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, listed at 5-foot-11, spent 10 glorious years with the Seattle Seahawks before his move to Mile High City last year. Like Brees, Wilson can expect a spot in Canton in his first year of eligibility.

The last time Carolina drafted first overall? 2011, when they selected Auburn dual-threat quarterback Cam Newton. That obviously worked out quite well for the franchise, and now we see if Young can also bring them back out of long-term mediocrity.
