The Carolina Panthers are hiring a familiar face as their new general manager.
Per Ian Rapoport, James Palmer and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Panthers have promoted Dan Morgan to the GM position. The 45-year-old spent the previous three years as an assistant to the GM, and he played for the Panthers from 2001 to 2007.
The Panthers fired head coach Frank Reich after a 1-10 start and promoted Chris Tabor to the interim HC position for the final six games. General manager Scott Fitterer was fired after three seasons at the helm.
Morgan was drafted 11th overall by the Panthers in 2001. He led them to a surprise Super Bowl 38 appearance in the 2003 season and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2004. Morgan also helped the Panthers to a second NFC Championship Game appearance in the 2005 season.
After his playing career, Morgan joined the Seattle Seahawks’ front office as a scouting intern. He spent seven years in their front office and was on staff for the franchise’s Super Bowl 48 championship-winning season in 2013.
Morgan was the Buffalo Bills’ director of player personnel from 2018 to 2020 under GM Brandon Beane before joining the Panthers’ front office in 2021.
