While the Arizona Cardinals have brought in a new coach, fans should not expect things to change that significantly just yet. The team’s owner is already facing allegations this offseason, and affairs aren’t great on the player side either.
Having lost J.J. Watt to retirement, they’re looking to trade DeAndre Hopkins. And there’s also the fact that Kyler Murray is recovering from an ACL tear.
Now, it appears the Cards are set to be without safety Budda Baker too. According to Adam Schefter, the player has requested a trade.
Baker’s impact in Arizona has been immense. The 27-year-old is a five-time Pro Bowler and has made three All-Pro teams since getting drafted in 2017.
Schefter has also noted that the player gave the team an ultimatum in February, asking them to either trade him or make him the highest-paid player in his position. Baker is the seventh highest-paid safety in the NFL right now as he’s due $14.5 million in 2023. The Chargers’ Derwin James ranks at No. 1 on said front with a $19 million-a-year deal.

PHNX Sports’ Bo Crack pointed out on Friday night Baker had removed the “AZ” from his Twitter bio, which has triggered added speculation as it pertains to his future.
Given that the Cardinals are in rebuild mode anyway, they might be open to trading Baker too.
