One year after leading the Arizona Cardinals to their first playoff berth since 2015, Kliff Kingsbury was relieved from his duties as head coach.
On Monday, the Cardinals fired Kingsbury following a disappointing 4-13 season. General manager Steve Keim resigned from his position so that he could mostly focus on his health. Needless to say, there are some major changes set to unfold in The Desert.
And interestingly, quarterback Kyler Murray is going to have a say in the changes that come to Arizona.
Per Johnny Venerable of PHNX Cardinals, team owner Michael Bidwill revealed stated that Murray will have some input on the team’s next head coach.
The relationship between Murray and the Cardinals has been a hot topic over the past year. It took the two sides a while to reach a contract extension, but he eventually signed a five-year pact worth $230.5 million. The Cardinals curiously included a “study clause” in Murray’s extension, but it was removed following plenty of public backlash.
Murray and the Arizona offense never got it together in 2022, and his season unfortunately ended abruptly when he tore his ACL in Week 14 against the New England Patriots. Murray also made headlines during the team’s Week 7 home game against the New Orleans Saints when he yelled at Kingsbury on the sidelines after a timeout.

The next Arizona GM and head coach will have plenty of work to do in rebuilding the team around Murray. There are holes on the offensive line and all over the defense. But the main task for the next GM-HC regime is to reassure Murray that they have the organization going back in the right direction.
