It sounds as though Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is indeed going to return to the field this Sunday, following an anxious 11-month wait.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, head coach Jonathan Gannon stated that Murray will start in Sunday afternoon’s home tilt against the Atlanta Falcons “if all goes well” during practice sessions this week.
On Oct. 18, Murray was taken off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, giving Arizona a 21-day window to activate him. There was hope that he would return in Week 9 against the Cleveland Browns, but the Cardinals wound up having to start third-stringer Clayton Tune instead.
Murray suffered a torn ACL in the Cardinals’ Week 14 Monday night game against the New England Patriots last week. It was known well in advance that Murray would miss the start of the season, and his placement on the PUP list ensured that he would miss at least six contests.
To say that the Cardinals have missed Murray would be a massive understatement. They lost each of their final four games without him last season and have dropped eight of their first nine here in 2023.
Last season, Murray completed 66.4 percent of his pass attempts for 2,368 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions to go along with 418 rushing yards and three rushing scores.
