The Arizona Cardinals might be in full rebuild mode at least for the 2023 season.
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has no guaranteed money left on the two-year extension he signed in 2020, and all signs point to him leaving the franchise after he was traded there by the Houston Texans.
NFL reporter Alex Meirov, who covers the NFL for The 33rd Team, gave a huge update on the situation between Hopkins and the franchise.
This year’s free agent class is not that deep, which could make the trade market for receivers a popular destination,” Meirov said. “The league-wide expectation is that he will be dealt at some point this offseason.
“It’s a new regime in Arizona, they want to get younger. Hopkins needs a new contract as well, everyone involved would like to get a fresh start. This one is more than likely going to happen at some point this offseason.”
Hopkins played in limited games due to having to serve a suspension for PEDs. He still had 717 receiving yards on 64 receptions and three touchdowns. With Kyler Murray expected to miss a ton of time due to a torn ACL, the 2023 season looks lost already no matter what the team does during the draft and free agency.
