When all is said and done, San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle may go down as the greatest mic’d up player in NFL history.
Despite playing the physically punishing game of football, Kittle has never failed to deliver hysterical quotes and sound bites before, during and after games. Even the immense competition that football brings can’t stop him from displaying his humorous side on the field.
“Inside the NFL” caught Kittle and Detroit Lions superstar edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson having a priceless conversation during Sunday’s NFC Championship Game at Levi’s Stadium.
After a play, Hutchinson told Kittle, “You’re screwing with my proprioception.” That prompted the 49ers’ star to respond with, “That’s a Michigan word. I’m an Iowa guy, you can’t say stuff like that.”
Kittle vs. Hutchinson was among the key matchups in the NFC Championship Game, with San Francisco’s Pro Bowl tight end trying to contain Detroit’s top defensive lineman during run-blocking plays.
Kittle caught just two passes for 27 yards, but he was pivotal in the run-blocking game as the 49ers rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries. Hutchinson finished the day with two pass defenses.

The Lions took a 24-7 lead into halftime, seemingly poised to reach the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. But the resilient 49ers clawed all the way up and put up 27 consecutive points, with Detroit not scoring again until the final minute.
It was too little too late for the Lions, who failed to recover the ensuing onside kick. With the 34-31 win, the 49ers are now set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58.
