As promised, the main event of UFC 264 between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier was memorable, but not in the way that everybody thought.
The fight ended after the first round after the Irishman was left sitting against the Octagon and a replay showed his leg being snapped as he stepped back. The fight was immediately called a TKO for Poirier by doctor’s stoppage.
Everybody watching the bout were in complete shock, and that includes an athlete that knows what it is like to injure his lower leg.
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, who suffered a compound fracture and dislocated right ankle during the team’s mid-season game against the New York Giants, was caught on camera just after McGregor’s leg was shown on the big screen in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
UFC president Dana White later confirmed that McGregor had broken his lower tibia.
Some, including former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, speculated that McGregor may have fought his last UFC fight.

White said Poirier will fight for the UFC lightweight title next against champion Charles Oliveira and that when McGregor is healthy he will probably get a fourth fight against Poirier.
“When Conor is healed and ready to go, we’ll do the rematch, I guess,” White said. “Poirier will do his thing until Conor is ready.”
