Cam Newton has offered an unpopular take on Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson in the eyes of the NFL community, having claimed that he admires Watson as a person.
The Browns QB is probably the most disliked player in the league at the moment, given the troubling accusations against him.
Watson got himself a lucrative deal in Cleveland despite his legal troubles but has yet to redeem himself with fans, who were understandably ticked off after Newton complimented him during a recent episode of his podcast
While discussing his status as a free agency, Newton named Watson as one of the quarterbacks he wouldn’t mind playing backup to.
He also spoke of his admiration for the 27-year-old, not just as an athlete, but as a person.
“I’ve grown to admire the person, the athlete that he is… Going through a lot of turmoil, but I believe that’s behind him,” Newton said.

Fans would have probably let it go if Cam had said he admired the QB as a player. But the “person” bit seemed to rub many of them the wrong way.
