It’s the end of an era in Carolina after the Panthers franchise parted ways with head coach Ron Rivera on Tuesday after nine seasons.
That move not only came as a major shock to the football world, but also to Cam Newton, who has only played under Rivera during his career with the Panthers.
Newton took to Instagram hours after the announcement of the firing to react like so:
“WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT YOU HAD ON MY LIFE. THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME AN OPPORTUNITY,” NEWTON WROTE. “THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN ME. I CAN GO ON AND ON BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO BE ME.”
“This one hurt deep!!”
Newton, who is on injured reserve with a Lisfranc injury, has had his job with the Panthers in question ever since the emergence of Kyle Allen. Those questions have since died down with this recent losing streak and his bad play.
