Cam Newton’s 2018 season was cut short prematurely due to a nagging injury to his shoulder that would have to be surgically repaired during the offseason.
The Carolina Panthers quarterback’s road to recovery has gone well as he gave an update on the condition of that shoulder on Monday.
“I’m feeling great now,” Newton told ESPN’s David Newton. “I feel like I do have full strength right now. But me telling the doctor, that is different than, you know, whatever the clearance process may be.”
The Panthers clearly don’t want to put him back on the field before it’s time to, which is probably why they went out and drafted QB Will Grier in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Aside from Grier, the team also has Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen waiting in the wings for any action needed if cam is not quite ready to go.
In the past three seasons where Newton has started all 16 games, Carolina has gone 11-5 (2017), 15-1 (2015) and 12-4 (2013).
