Cam Newton appears to have changed his mind.
After initially stating he would wait it out for a starting job, Newton isn’t ruling out taking a backup role on a team “in the right situation,” according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Carolina tried shopping Newton to the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Chargers, but nothing ever progressed.
The Bears have since traded for Nick Foles and the Chargers appear to be fine with Tyrod Taylor and they also drafted Justin Herbert with the sixth pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Due to injuries in 2019, Newton only played in 2 games with the Panthers and threw for just 572 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed five times for -2 yards.
