One of the men involved in a brawl with former NFL quarterback Cam Newton on Sunday has broken his silence on the matter.
On Sunday, a viral video showed Newton and two men engaging in a physical confrontation at a youth football tournament in Atlanta, Georgia. The event was a 7-on-7 tournament involving 15 to 18-year-olds.
In case you haven’t seen it, here is a video of the incident where Newton engaged in a fight with two individuals:
The football tournament was organized by the We Ball Sports company. Members of Newton’s program, C1N, participated in the tournament.
Per Fox News Digital, the two men who fought with Newton were football coaches T.J. and Steph Brown. Speaking to the outlet, T.J. explained that the two previously had a working relationship with the former NFL MVP.
T.J. explained that things escalated into a physical brawl because of the way Newton’s team was acting towards his and Steph’s team, TopShelf Performance:

“Sunday comes, I’m walking through the parking lot, walking to the field. Cam jumps out of his car and yells, ‘Hey, all that sorry s— ain’t gonna work today. What we betting today? What we betting?’ I’m like, ‘I ain’t betting you, bro. I already beat you three, four times. You got to beat me first.’ He like, ‘What we betting? I got plenty of money. I ain’t ever running out of money.’ That’s when I told him, ‘That’s your problem. All you care about is money. You think money is everything. You can’t buy me.’ And I walk off.”
“It’s probably three minutes into the game, he’s sitting up top with all his kids around him under a tent yelling down on us. ‘Hey, I know that play. That’s my stuff. I taught y’all everything y’all know. I’m y’all daddy. I made y’all. I’m the reason for everything y’all got going on.’ He’s just yelling all this stuff.”
Steph added that he was “disappointed in” himself for letting Newton agitate him to that point. That said, Steph emphasized that he wouldn’t let the former Pro Bowler “disrespect” the organization, kids or parents.
Though he isn’t officially retired, Newton hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2021 season. It’s widely assumed at this point that his professional football career is over.
A three-time Pro Bowler, Newton won 2015 NFL MVP honor and led the Carolina Panthers to four playoff appearances and a trip to Super Bowl 50.
