Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper is eyeing a future Hall of Famer as the next head coach of his franchise, according to Cam Newton.
On Monday, Tepper fired head coach Frank Reich following an ugly 17-10 road loss to the Tennessee Titans that dropped football’s worst team to 1-10. Including interim head coaches, the Panthers are now on their sixth HC since Tepper became the owner in 2018.
Speaking in a recent episode on his YouTube channel with Dan Katz of of Barstool Sports (h/t Scott Polacek of Bleacher Report), Newton revealed that Tepper is “hoping” to land New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
“Knowing what I do know, he’s hoping that he can land Bill Belichick. That, right there, would be a win-win-win-win for David Tepper…Tepper would give him everything that he would need.”
The Patriots are enduring one of the worst seasons in franchise history, falling to 2-9 on the year after Sunday’s 10-7 loss to the New York Giants. With the club headed for a third losing campaign in four years, many expect Belichick and the Patriots to part ways after this season.
If that ends up happening, Belichick would certainly be the most sought-after head coach in the next hiring cycle. The Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Chargers are among the other teams who have been mentioned as possible suitors for Belichick.

Tepper fired both Ron Rivera (2019) and Matt Rhule (2022) mid-season. Reich became the third head Carolina head coach to be fired mid-season in the past five years, once again highlighting the lack of stability in the organization under Tepper.
Belichick will have several offers coming his way if he leaves the Patriots. Will the Panthers be among those to pursue him? Only time will tell.
