Earlier today, it was announced that the NFL had suspended Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley for betting on games.
The league’s investigation found that Ridley had been betting on games during a five-day period in November 2021, while he was away from the team and on the league’s “non-football illness” list.
It has since been reported that Ridley actually wagered on Falcons games while away from the team. The star wideout even dropped a hint at the upcoming suspension on his Twitter account on Sunday, prior to the news being made public.
Ridley hopped back on Twitter today to address the suspension and the news regarding his gambling.
In three separate tweets, Ridley revealed that he had only wagered $1,500 (which is pocket change for him), that he didn’t have a gambling problem, and that he was going to take this time off to come back even stronger and healthier in 2023…if the league allows him to do so, of course.

One can’t help but wonder why Ridley would even want to bother betting on football games if he “couldn’t even watch football at that point”?
Either way, he broke one of the cardinal sins of professional sports. And now he’ll pay the price in the form of another lost season.
