Caleb Williams has gone after an NFL analyst who recently claimed he has always had it easy.
The former USC quarterback is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, but there are some concerns over whether or not he has what it takes to succeed in the pros.
Former Alabama QB Greg McElroy, now with ESPN, recently called Williams out for having a “sense of entitlement” while claiming he “never faced adversity” during a chat on Kevin Clark’s ‘This Is Football’ podcast.
Williams took to Twitter/X to respond to McElroy. “Let’s go back to school again,” he wrote, before stating the definition of adversity and describing the challenges he faced in college.
The star signal-caller highlighted the fact that he didn’t start in his freshman year, though he was named the starter in his seventh game with Oklahoma. He also recalled the hamstring injury he suffered during the Trojans’ Pac-12 Championship game against Utah while reminding McElroy of his difficult season in 2023.

Williams has been adamant that the loss to Utah would have had a different outcome if he hadn’t sustained said injury, which occurred while he was making a 59-yard run in the first quarter.
“The outcome could have been a little different if I was healthy that last game and I truly believe that,” he said on SportsCenter last February.
Caleb Williams Had A Tough Time In 2023
Williams previously spoke about how hard it was to end last season with a 7-5 record and not make it to the College Football Playoff.
“This was one of my most important years of playing football so far,” he said back in November, via the Los Angeles Times.
“I’ve never been in this situation, where I’m 7-5 and there are no playoff hopes at the end of the season I’m dealing with it emotionally, dealing with it spiritually and physically. It’s been one of the most important years I think I’ve had.“
Whether or not the adversity he’s faced in college has prepared him for life in the NFL is another thing altogether. But we’re sure he’ll be just fine.
