Caleb Williams hasn’t been in Heisman form these last few weeks, but he’s still expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
The USC quarterback won’t be going back-to-back after winning said trophy last year and is likely NFL-bound. BetOnline.ag now has the New England Patriots as the favorite team to draft him amid their struggles this season.
The six-time Super Bowl winners are 2-8 at the moment and improvement does not appear to be on the horizon given the way things are going with Mac Jones. Bill Belichick, who was rumored to be on the hot seat ahead of their loss to the Indianapolis Colts, is still in charge and is reportedly no longer committed to Jones as his starting QB.
The New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals are also 2-8 while the Carolina Panthers are 1-9. But the Patriots are tipped to get the first-overall pick and replace Jones with Williams.
The latter has the markings of a franchise player and it’s no secret what Belichick could do once he has a top quarterback.
While he’s been an average head coach since Tom Brady’s departure, a season with Williams as his QB could be all Belichick needs to stitch his legacy back up.
