Caleb Williams’ father, Carl Williams, has perhaps always known his son was destined for greatness.
The former Heisman was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Chicago Bears last week and hopes to bring success to a franchise that has been crying out for a franchise quarterback for as long as most fans can remember.
The QB should also be keen on making his family proud, but it appears he’s been doing so for a long time. His dad recently shared a story he claims brought a tear to his eye.
The video below shows Carl recalling having seen a text from his son spurning a female’s advances when he was around 12 or 13 years old so he could focus on football.
“Probably seventh grade,” he said, via the No Context Chicago Bears account on Twitter/X. “And I got him a new little Mac laptop. And so I’m setting it up. He’s in his bedroom. It’s probably 10 o’clock at night.”
“And I get it halfway set up it’s connected to his phone right so he doesn’t know I can see his messages and some little girl texts him saying,’ Call me,’ whatever. And he pops up on his screen and his mother sit there and I’m looking at it.”

“And she’s like,’He’s supposed to be asleep’ and I’m like, ‘Yep, yep. Yeah.’ And sure enough, he texts right back and says, ‘I can’t I gotta train in the morning.’ And that actually brought a tear to my eyes.”
The Work Is Just Beginning For Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams’ discipline is one of the reasons he’s gotten to where he is today. But the work is just getting started. He will have to turn down even more distractions now that he’s made it into the NFL.
Williams has found himself in a perfect situation in Chicago, with the team trading Justin Fields to make him the undisputed starter, also acquiring some premier offensive weapons to put him in a position to succeed.
Eyes will be on Caleb during his first season in Chicago, with the Bears set to enter 2024 as the league’s most intriguing team.
