Calais Campbell has offered his own take on Patrick Mahomes’ tactic for avoiding hard hits in games.
Speaking during one of the episodes of new hit Netflix series ‘Quarterback’, the Kansas City Chiefs star revealed that sometimes he compliments defenders to soften them up so they won’t hit him.
While this doesn’t seem like something that should influence defensive players, Campbell has admitted that the tactic is actually very sound.
“That’s very true. He let the cat out of the bag now, though,” the Atlanta Falcons defensive end told reporters on Tuesday. “Be nice because you don’t want to get hit. But there is definite truth to that.”
The 36-year-old also disclosed that former Indianapolis Colts star Andrew Luck was the nicest QB he ever played against. Luck did have a reputation for complimenting defenders who sacked him. Campbell recorded a half-sack and three quarterback hits on Luck in 2013. In 2018, he sacked the ex-QB while adding three hits.
Aaron Rodgers was also mentioned as a signal-caller who has been nice to Campbell.
