During the 2020 season, C.J. Gardner Johnson was in the middle of two skirmishes that seen him get into it with Chicago Bears players in the regular season and the playoffs.
As you can expect, he is not happy to hear the NFL is cracking down on taunting during the 2021 season.
Gardner-Johnson told reporters on Tuesday he thought the anti-taunting emphasis was “bulls—.”
“To be real, the rule is bulls—. Excuse my language, but you can’t stop the emotional players from being who we are. Not me, who we are. A lot of players wear their emotions on their sleeves. … It is what it is,” he said, via The Athletic.
“I’m questioning just like you’re questioning it. How? Because the game is a rollercoaster of emotions. Mentally you’ve got to be an athlete and be professional,” he said.
Bears wide receiver Javon Wims punched the New Orleans Saints cornerback in the helmet, which led to a two-game suspension for Wims. Bears wide receiver Anthony Miller was next up after shoving Gardner-Johnson in the face during the two teams’ NFC wild card game. Both players received offsetting personal fouls for unsportsmanlike conduct and Miller was ejected.
