C.J. Gardner-Johnson entered the NFL free agency knowing that he’d have a huge market as one of the top young safeties in the NFL.
Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Eagles during the 2022 preseason and was a pivotal part of helping the defense to be one of the NFL’s top units.
However, he is not happy this week.
On Thursday, the free-agent defensive back tweeted and then deleted a post about disrespect.
ESPN endorsed Gardner-Johnson as a ‘must-sign’ player for Denver in the weeks leading up to free agency.
However, the Eagles were said to be trying to secure a long-term contract with safety CJ Gardner-Johnson, the Score NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote in a Wednesday tweet.

“Not there yet, but they want him back,” Schultz wrote. “CJGJ played very well for Philly after the team acquired him in a trade with the #Saints before the season. True ball-hawk, with 6 INTs.”
The Eagles want to retain the fifth-year defensive back ahead of free agency, but he hit the market and is fielding interest. It looks likes things may not be going very well.
The 25-year-old was the co-interceptions leader this past season, with six interceptions and 67 tackles in 2022. Given his season and upside, Gardner-Johnson will surely command a healthy cost to whichever team signs him.
