Buffalo Bills starting middle linebacker Terrel Bernard was carted off the field after twisting his right ankle early in the second half of Buffalo’s AFC wild-card playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Him being carted off did not look good. The starting linebacker got hurt while tackling Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport would later report the team believed he suffered an ankle sprain. His X-rays returned negative and he is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday.
That is a huge sigh of relief heading into the AFC Divisional against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
The second-year player took over the starting job after Buffalo lost Tremaine Edmunds in free agency in March. Bernard’s status for next week is still unclear, as ankle sprains can still be serious enough to force missed time.
The former third-round pick collected 143 tackles, 6.5 sacks, three interceptions, and three fumble recoveries during his second season.

Despite the injury, Josh Allen passed for three touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the Buffalo Bills to a 31-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
