One top AFC club has gotten closer to securing the long-awaited new stadium.
On Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills announced in a statement that along with the organization, New York State and Erie County have officially signed “all documents and contracts for the Bills new stadium project in Orchard Park.”
The Erie County Legislature will then perform 30-day review, the statement noted.
The hope is that the Bills’ new stadium will open in time for the 2026 season, with a projected capacity of around 60,000. The organization released new renderings of the proposed stadium last week, which you can view below.
Buffalo currently plays its home games at Highmark Stadium, which opened in 1973. It is the fourth-oldest NFL stadium currently being used; only Soldier Field (Chicago Bears, opened in 1924), Lambeau Field (Green Bay Packers, opened in 1957) and Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City Chiefs, opened in 1973) are older.
Before moving into Highmark Stadium (opened as “Rich Stadium”), the Bills made their home games at War Memorial Stadium from 1960 to ’72. That stadium was demolished in 1989.

Highmark Stadium is only one of five NFL stadiums that has been in use by an NFL for at least 40 years; the other being the Caesars Superdome (New Orleans Saints, 1975). After those five, the next oldest is the Miami Dolphins’ home venue of Hard Rock Stadium, which opened in 1987.
The Bears are in the early stages of planning a new stadium in Arlington Heights, and then Lambeau Field will stand as the oldest active NFL stadium.
