Working in the NFL can be great for your bank account, but it does come with a ton of sacrifices.
Between practice, film study, team meetings and game-planning, many head coaches find themselves working an insane amount of hours every single day, especially during the season.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott was one of those coaches who not only worked long hours but would also sleep in his office. Those days are now over.
As the head coach explained last week he’s found a more balanced approach, and is looking forward to more family time.
“After a few days this week, we’re going to unplug a little bit to get away, speaking of balance, and enjoy a little bit of what life has to offer,” McDermott told the Buffalo News. “I think that perspective is good. And then we fire back up at the end of July, and we get this thing cranked up all the way here.”
McDermott and Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier were assistant coaches together with the Eagles early in their careers and he sees the changes in McDermott.

“That’s a sign of growth, compared to a young Sean McDermott,” Frazier said. “He’s put a priority on family and spending time with our family, even though we spend a lot of hours here. A lot of hours. But he’s not one of those guys who will sleep at the office anymore, that’s way behind him.”
We can only wonder how McDermott felt while watching the Kansas City Chiefs march down the field with just 13 seconds left in two plays to send their playoff game into overtime.
The Bills are hoping to rebound from that crushing loss this season.
