The Buffalo Bills are releasing a fan favorite and franchise star in a cap-saving move ahead of free agency.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bills plan on releasing Pro Bowl cornerback Tre’Davious White. The team plans to designate him as a cut after June 1st, clearing them a whopping $10.2 million in cap space.
With the move, White will be free to sign with a new team when the free agent market opens next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. EST.
White was just one of several notable Bills players to get cut in cap-saving moves today. The team also released star safety Jordan Poyer, mainstay center Mitch Morse, offensive weapons Deonte Harty and Nyheim Hines as well as cornerback Siran Neal.

White was one of football’s top cornerbacks over his first four NFL seasons from 2017 to 2020, earning two Pro Bowl nods and a First-team All-Pro selection. Unfortunately, injuries have limited White to 21 total games over the last three seasons.
With the Bills up against the cap, GM Brandon Beane had to make some difficult decisions ahead of free agency. That included releasing two of the franchise’s cornerstone players in Poyer and White, who have been instrumental in the club’s emergence as an AFC heavyweight.
That said, there promises to be a considerable market for White ahead of free agency. For his career, the 2017 first-round pick has 18 interceptions, 68 pass defenses and five forced fumbles.
