As Tom Brady prepares to play Sunday against his hometown team, the legendary quarterback’s playing future remains uncertain. He is now a single man and does not have to worry about a wife trying to keep him retired, so now his playing status is up in the air.
NFL Network cited multiple sources close to Brady saying that “all options are on the table” for the 45-year-old pending free agent for 2023.
Bucs insider Rick Stroud has named the San Francisco 49ers as a potential landing spot for the all-time great quarterback next season. Brady grew up a 49ers fan.
He reportedly wanted to join the organization as a free agent in 2020, but Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch elected to stick with Jimmy G. Before this report, Shanahan addressed the possibility of Brady joining the 49ers next season.
“I’d like to say of course not, but I think everyone’s since then, you’re wondering when is the number too high?” Shanahan said. “But now, like, when you watch him that first week in Tampa, you’re like, ‘What the hell was anyone ever thinking?’
“The dude looks the exact same he did that year (in 2020). He does when he comes off injuries, and I think he’s playing as good now and throwing the ball as well now as I’ve seen anybody ever do it.”
Brady and the Buccaneers lead the NFC South at 6-6 after a comeback win Monday night against the Saints. A road win against the 49ers would be huge for them record and confidence wise.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion has thrown for 3,332 yards with 16 touchdowns and three interceptions in 12 games this year.
