The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have thrown a subtle dig Russell Wilson’s way in their video introducing new quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Wilson had a torrid first season with the Denver Broncos following the excitement that came with his trade from the Seattle Seahawks ahead of the 2022/23 season. A nine-time Pro Bowler, the quarterback threw for 3,524 yards, a meager 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
As for the Broncos, they went for 4-11 in Wilson’s 15 starts.
It appears things were always going to work out poorly for the signal-caller given what can now be considered a premature hype video that has likely immortalized the phrase “Broncos Country, Let’s Ride.”
Maybe it gets exorcized if Wilson returns to Pro Bowl form, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield has joined the Bucs as the replacement for Tom Brady and will have some pretty big shoes to fill. The QB had a very tough 2022 himself after getting traded to the Carolina Panthers from the Cleveland Browns. The Panthers released him and, while he performed well enough after getting picked up by the Los Angeles Rams, Mayfield was allowed to hit the free agency market in the offseason.

The Bucs introduced their new QB in a short Twitter video on Monday and appeared to be keen on avoiding the Broncos’ pitfalls.
“Bucs fans, Baker Mayfield here. Just signed the contract. Ready to get to work. Happy to be here. Let’s get it,” is all Mayfield said.
That could have flown under the radar as is, but the caption, “Let’s bake,” did not go undetected, and fans are going in.
The Bucs could take a chance with such a dig as it would be hard for Baker to bomb as badly as Wilson did, though it’s entirely possible, plus expectations are not that high in Tampa Bay following Brady’s departure.
