The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are moving on from another valuable member of their Super Bowl 55 championship team.
In a surprise move, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday that the Bucs have cut veteran kicker Ryan Succop.
Succop, the 2009 “Mr. Irrelevant”, spent his first five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs before going to the Tennessee Titans in 2014. After six years there, Succop joined the Buccaneers in 2020 free agency.
Succop made 90.3 percent of his kicks for Tampa Bay in 2022. He went 9-for-9 on field goal attempts and made 12-of-13 field goal attempts in Tampa’s four postseason games, playing a pivotal role in their unlikely championship run.
But Succop has since struggled to get anywhere close to that form of consistency. He finished with a 2021 field goal percentage of 83.3 and with a 2022 field goal percentage of 81.6.
Gradually, more and more pieces from that Super Bowl 55 championship are leaving Tampa Bay. Tom Brady retired this offseason, less than a year after tight end Rob Gronkowski called it quits (for good).

Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones, the team’s two lead running backs of 2020, are also gone. The former was released earlier this offseason, and he remains a free agent. Well-respected veteran tight end Cameron Brate was also recently let go in a cap-saving move.
Tampa’s front seven has also undergone significant changes since last year. Jason Pierre-Paul, and Ndamukong Suh both left the Bucs, and safety Jordan Whitehead (New York Jets) and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting (Tennessee Titans) are also playing elswhere.
