The NFL is a business, and with that comes a lot of broken promises from both sides. Some players get paid a lot of money and don’t deliver while NFL front offices will say one thing publicly and do the completel opposite.
That cost of doing business also extends to the NFL Draft and one incoming rookie is calling out one team for their broken promise.
While he didn’t name the Bucs specifically, former Georgia safety Lewis Cine said on The Richard Sherman Podcast that Tampa Bay told him he would be the team’s target in the first round.
“I had a team at No. 27, they know who they are. I don’t have to say no names. It was at 27. The whole process, [they said] ‘If you’re there, we’re gonna pick you.’ They move down to the second round. I’m like ‘Damn, they just did me so dirty.’ And then at this point I’m like, ‘You know, if I don’t go today, it is what it is.’ I went to lay down and then I received the call and I was like, thank God I just got picked.”
The Buccaneers had the 27th overall pick but traded back and out of the first round altogether. The Minnesota Vikings selected Cine at No. 32 overall.

The Buccaneers used their first pick in the 2022 draft on Houston defensive end Logan Hall.
The good news for Cine is he didn’t fall much further after Tampa Bay traded out of the first round.
