We are at the time of the year when a quarterback’s measurements have taken the center stage before the NFL Draft in April. Kyler Murray knows all about this, but it did not stop him from being a top draft pick.
As the NFL world descends on Indianapolis for the 2023 scouting combine, plenty of eyes will be on Bryce Young.
The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner currently has the shortest odds to become the first overall pick in the NFL Draft, but his actual height and frame might be the biggest obstacle in him going No. 1.
This week, it was reported that Young measured at 5-foot-10 1/2. Despite him having a stellar career at Alabama, questions have arouse whether he can find success in the league due to his size.
ESPN’s Todd McShay discussed:
“I love Bryce Young, I really do,” McShay says. “I know he’s 195 pounds; a really good friend of mine who’s a scout had him at 5’10½”. But I met with him, I’ve talked to him. He’s special. He’s different. He has the poise, the presence in the pocket, the playmaking, everything else you want. I absolutely love Bryce Young. I would bet on him.” …
He stated that if he were a general manager, he would be: “Scared to death of drafting him”.

Here’s how social media responded:
Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray remain the most notable recent examples of quarterbacks who have flourished despite being less than six feet tall. However, both of them are much bulkier in weight than Young, who also reportedly weighs below 200 pounds.
Young reportedly won’t throw at the combine but will still meet with several teams.
The Bears are unlikely to select him with Justin Fields already in place. Teams like the Texans and Colts are in desperate need of his services.
