The Panthers have been careful not to crown Bryce Young their Week 1 starting quarterback for 2023, but he continues to display things that will ultimately give them no choice.
Since selecting Alabama prospect Young first overall in the draft, coach Frank Reich has emphasized patience in Young’s development, while general manager Scott Fitterer has suggested veteran Andy Dalton may start the season at quarterback.
Judging by what he did this week, Young has gained a ton of extra points.
Andy Dalton, who signed with the team this offseason, praised him for what he did during practice.
“Andy Dalton said Bryce Young noticed one of the plays on the script today was written up wrong. Mentioned it and got it corrected,” Joe Person of The Athletic tweeted.
This shouldn’t be too shocking since he had the highest S2 cognition score among all quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL draft class.

Per the S2 cognition website, athletes will take a test that typically lasts between 30-45 minutes on a specialized laptop computer that “measures how they process and makes split-second decisions in their sport.”
The Panthers likely had him selected before those results came out, but it only cemented their selection after knowing that information.
Young may get roasted about his height, but it may be his brain that ends up seeing him have a long career in the NFL.
