Last Thursday, the Carolina Panthers made Alabama product Bryce Young the first overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Young’s talent level, maturity and leadership have never been questioned. But some scouts and analysts have expressed concern over his height of 5-foot-10 1/8. Most NFL quarterbacks are around 6-foot-2 or taller in height.
Just how small is Young compared to other NFL players? Well, you can get a good comparison by viewing this photo of him with new teammate Brian Burns (6-foot-5, 250 pounds):

Young and Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud were widely projected to be the top two picks in the draft. Sure enough, it played out that way, with the Houston Texans using the No. 2 selection on the ex-Buckeyes standout.
In his final season with the Crimson Tide, Young completed 64.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,328 yards and 32 touchdowns against five interceptions. In his 2021 Heisman Trophy winning season, Young threw for 4,872 yards and 47 touchdowns against seven interceptions.
The Panthers have missed the playoffs all but one year (2017) since their run to Super Bowl 50. They finished 7-10 last year with three different quarterbacks in Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker, falling just one game short of the NFC South division title.
With Tom Brady now retired, the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers are completely vulnerable. We’ll find out if Young can lead Carolina to a division title in what should be a compelling rookie year.
