Head injuries are one of the scariest injuries NFL players can sustain, simply because nobody can even pinpoint how each one affects different players. Unfortunately, Browns cornerback Denzel Ward is the latest victim of a concussion.
However, this concussion is even more severe than most because it’s his fifth just since 2018. Those numbers are extremely concerning, considering he’s entering his seventh year in the NFL.
In recent years, there has been a lot more research on head injuries in the NFL and the potential effects, which has only made players more cautious as to how much of these injuries they could take.
Many online believe that Ward should seriously consider retiring and even suggest using guardian caps, which have recently been approved for players to wear in games for the first time.
“He should only ever step on the field with those padded helmets, blanking on the name. That’s scary and sad,” one commenter said.
“i hate to say iut but he has to retire this is coming from someone who loves football i couldnt advise him any other way,” another said.

“Known” is the most impactful word here. You know he’s had more than 5 but the fact he’s had that many officially diagnosed that close together… it’s time to retire. Luke Kuechly was a star too, and he retired early from repeat concussions, no shame in it, save your health!!!” a third added.
Of course, if Ward does step away from the game at just 27 years old, then there’s really nobody to blame, and he’d still deserve lots of respect for his career.
Denzel Ward Could Be Leaving Behind A Very Good NFL Career
When Ward signed his massive contract extension in April 2022, it was well deserved, as the Browns had drafted him with the No. 4 pick in 2018.
In his six years in the league, he hasn’t allowed a passer rating over 80 in an entire season or more than five touchdowns.
He’s even made three Pro Bowls, including one as a rookie and one just last year.
