It’s looking more and more likely that Deshaun Watson will be suspended for the entire 2022 NFL season, as a result of all the sexual misconduct allegations brought against him over the last couple years.
While everyone is busy trying to predict exactly how many games the Cleveland Browns QB will be forced to sit out, no one is asking the other important question: Who will take his place under center for the Browns?
Right now there are three other quarterbacks on Cleveland’s roster: Baker Mayfield, Jacoby Brissett and Joshua Dobbs.
With all that’s gone on this offseason, you can pretty much throw out the possibility of Mayfield ever putting on a Browns uniform again. That leaves Brissett, Dobbs, or perhaps someone who’s not yet on the team’s roster.
According to Pro Football Network’s Adrian Wilson, it appears as though the former is set to fill in for a suspended Watson, if needed.
Meanwhile, the Browns are awaiting a lengthy suspension for Watson. There is concern from the NFL Players Association that the league will look to suspend the former Clemson standout for the entire 2022 season, if not indefinitely, according to sources. Should that happen, the Browns are expected to go forward with Jacoby Brissett rather than try to reconcile with Mayfield.
A scenario of trying to mend fences with Mayfield and have him play one more season for them after effectively rejecting him as their guy is considered all but impossible to accomplish.
The Browns signed both Dobbs and Brissett to one-year contracts this offseason. Dobbs has not started a single NFL contest since being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017, while Brissett has started in 37 games for three different teams over his first six NFL seasons, compiling a 14-23 record along the way.

Brissett seems like the safer option of the two. He has quite a bit of experience when comes to filling in for his team’s injured or suspended starting quarterback.
Despite all that, Browns fans can’t be feeling very confident knowing that there’s a very good chance they’ll be placing all their postseason hopes on a journeyman QB with a sub-.500 record in 2022.
Good luck with that, Dawg Pound.
