Despite concerns about potential disciplinary action by the NFL, the Cleveland Browns reportedly aren’t planning to void quarterback Deshaun Watson’s contract nor the trade they made with the Houston Texans to acquire him.
Before the Browns acquired Watson, he was dealing with 22 civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault or misconduct during massage sessions, so the team wanted to make sure they had the blessing of many female employees that they had on hand. According to Browns assistant wide receivers coach Callie Brownson, the organization consulted its female employees prior to finalizing the trade for Watson.
“We had a lot of really healthy conversations and I appreciated that,” Brownson told Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal. “I definitely felt like they cared about the opinions of the women in this organization. It was not neglected; it was not overlooked. They definitely spoke to those who would be involved in the organization to see what that meant.”
According to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot on Saturday, the Browns remain “all-in” on Watson and have not changed their view of him despite some recent developments.
Those recent developments are the two new lawsuits that have been filed against him, which brings his total to 24.
Watson said he saw 40 different massage therapists over five seasons, but enny Vrentas of the New York Times reported that he actually saw 66 different masseuses over a 17-month period.

Cleveland traded three first-round picks, one third-round pick and two fourth-round picks to the Texans for Watson and signed him to a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract after a Houston grand jury declined to pursue criminal charges against him.
